56, including 18 women, held in joint forces drive in Bandarban

In a joint forces operation in the Ruma Betelpara area of Bandarban, 56 individuals, including two active members of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), have been arrested. Seven weapons were also seized during the operation.
The operation was conducted on Monday (April 8th) and led by the army.
Bandarban Police Superintendent Saikat Shahin stated that the operation against the Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) in the Ruma hills continues and that 49 additional individuals were arrested.
On Sunday night (April 7th), the joint forces arrested an assistant cashier of Sonali Bank in Ruma along with five other KNF members and seized seven firearms.
Army Chief SM Shafiuddin Ahmed had previously confirmed the arrest of several KNF members in Bandarban during a law enforcement operation on Sunday and noted the seizure of weapons.
Bandarban Police Superintendent Saikat Shahin added, “The joint forces conducted operations in Bethel Para and the main area of Ruma on Sunday night and Monday, leading to the arrest of 56 individuals, including 18 female KNF members. Six additional arrests were made prior to this.”
The joint forces operation included armored vehicles. During the ongoing efforts, a significant number of firearms, ammunition, and equipment have been recovered.
Following the Army Chief’s statement, RAB announced the arrest of Cheosim Bom, the KNF’s central committee chief coordinator, in a special operation. He was apprehended at his home in Shyaronpara of Suwalok Union in Bandarban Sadar Upazila.
Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Shah Mojahid Uddin stated that law enforcement presence has been increased in the area to facilitate the operation. “Law enforcement forces are working tirelessly to apprehend the militants. I am hopeful that the operation will be completed successfully,” he added.
