Bandarban district orders evacuation of 240 families amid border tensions
DESK REPORT
In response to rising tensions along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, Bandarban’s deputy commissioner has directed the relocation of 240 families from the Naikhongchhari border area to safer locations.
The directive was issued during a border inspection by Deputy Commissioner Shah Mujahid Uddin on Tuesday (February 6th), highlighting the government’s concern over the safety of its citizens amidst escalating conflict.
The escalating conflict inside Myanmar, close to the Bandarban-Myanmar border, has prompted this precautionary move. Families, especially those with school-going children living in the most vulnerable border areas, have been ordered to move to secure shelters. Additionally, schools in the vicinity of the border will remain closed until further notice, with residents advised to stay alert but not panic.
