BGB recovers 6.5 lakh yaba tablets in Ukhiya; four held

Border Guard Bangladesh has arrested four people in possession of 650,000 pieces of yaba tablets at Karbunia under Ratnapalang Union Parishad in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila.

The arrested are Md Mahbub, 30, son of late Md Kabir Ahmed, hailing from Painashya Charparha area under Jaliapalang Union Parishad of Ukhiya; Sufia Sultana Sumi, 26, wife of Ikbal Hossain of Karbunia; Fatema Begum, 65, wife of Ali Ahmed of Karbunia; and Md Rafiq Ullakh, 21, son of Md Kalu Mia of Pashchim Diglia Palang area, said  34 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Mehedi Hasan Kabir in a press release on Saturday noon (April 23).

According to the press release, acting on a tip-off that there was a large stockpile of yaba tablets at the house of ‘yaba godfather’ Md Ikbal Hossain at Karbunia under Gorjanbunia BOP (Border Outpost), a team of BGB conducted a raid there and recovered 50,000 yaba tablets on Friday. During the raid, the BGB team also arrested four people, and based on their confessions, they recovered another 600,000 yaba tablets from the remote hills of Gorjanbunia. ‘Yaba Godfather’ Md Ikbal Hossain and his brother Md Bhutta Mia, sons of Karbunia’s Ali Ahmed, have been shown absconding in the yaba recovery case.

Cox’s Bazar’s 34 BGB Battalion has recovered 34,72,752 pieces of yaba tablets, 14 kg and 20 grams of crystal meth, and arrested 40 people involved since January 1 this year.
