Body of missing tripura woman recovered in Khagrachhari

Police have recovered the body of Ishwari Bala Tripura (58), who went missing in Khagrachhari.

The body was found on Wednesday, May 15, around 11 am, on a high hill in the Kalabagan area of Bhaibonchhara Union in the district headquarters. It was later sent to the district headquarters hospital for an autopsy.

Ishwari Bala Tripura was the wife of Dronacharya Tripura of Chandra Kumar Karbari Para, Ward 9, Perachhara Union.

According to local sources and the victim’s family, Ishwari Bala Tripura went missing on the night of May 11, around 11 pm, while returning home after charging her mobile phone outside. Unable to find her after extensive searching, her family filed a general diary with Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station, prompting the police to start an investigation. On Wednesday, May 15, around 8 am, Ishwari’s husband received a call from Vivekananda Tripura, the husband of Ishwari’s brother-in-law’s daughter, informing him that Ishwari’s body had been found on a high hill in Kalabagan. The police then recovered the body.

Local sources added that Vivekananda Tripura is currently in India.

A local source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Vivekananda Tripura is suspected to be involved in the incident due to his gambling addiction. It is believed that he committed the crime to steal approximately 1.5 lakh taka worth of gold ornaments worn by the victim.

Additional Superintendent of Police in Khagrachhari, Md Tafiqul Alam, confirmed the recovery of the body from the hill. After the autopsy at the district hospital, the body was handed over to the victim’s family at 2:55 pm.

He stated that the cause of the murder and subsequent legal actions will be determined after the investigation.
