Momoshen Rakhine, a young woman from Cox’s Bazar’s Rakhine community, has become the first barrister from the ethnic group in Bangladesh.

She was called to the Bar at a ceremony held at The Honourable Society of Middle Temple in London last month on March 27.

Momoshen, a resident of Boro Rakhine Para in Maheshkhali Municipality, is the eldest daughter of retired district and sessions judge Lamong and Molishen. She is also the granddaughter of late Chaching Sawdagar, a prominent Burmese Market businessman in Cox’s Bazar.

She completed her O and A Levels at Little Jewels School in Chattogram and earned her law degree from the University of the West of England (UWE) in the UK. She later completed her Bar training from Middle Temple, London.

Her father, Lamong, holds the distinction of being the first district judge from the Rakhine community.

The family has sought prayers and blessings for Momoshen’s continued success.
