One killed in JSS-UPDF gunfight

A man was shot dead in a fierce gunfight between UPDF (Prasit) and JSS in the Oltachari area adjacent to Khagrachhari’s Dighinala Narailchari on Tuesday morning, July 12, 2022.
The man was identified as Jiban Tripura, 26, a post collector of the UPDF (United People’s Democratic Front).
The UPDF condemned the killing and said the JSS (Jana Samhati Samiti) group (Santu) opened fire on them without any provocation, leaving its Jiban Tripura dead.
As the area is very inaccessible, no member of the law and order force has reached the spot yet.
Locals said the body of slain UPDF member Nayan Tripura was lying on the banks of the Maini River.
Tensions have run high in the area, they said.
