In Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhia upazila, a Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) member was kidnapped and later shot dead at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp.
The incident, attributed to Arakan Salvation Army (ARSA) terrorists by law enforcement, occurred early Tuesday.
The victim, 35-year-old Mohammad Jalil, hailed from block A, camp number 4 in Kutupalong.
Md Arefin Jewel, deputy commander and superintendent of police of the 14-Armed Police Battalion (APBn) responsible for camp security, confirmed Jalil’s death.
According to Jewel, a group of 15-20 ARSA militants abducted three Rohingyas from block F of Kutupalong-4 camp late Monday afternoon, later executing Jalil with a headshot and abandoning his body on a football field.
Following the discovery, the 14-APBn deputy commander said, the APBn personnel transported Jalil to Ukhia specialized hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Ukhia police then conducted an inquest and transferred Jalil’s body to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Police raids are on to apprehend those involved in the killing, APBn’s Jewel said.
