In a violent encounter in the Sajek region of Baghaichhari, Rangamati hill district, two individuals associated with the UPDF-Prasit faction lost their lives to gunfire from a rival group.
The confrontation occurred near Machalong Bridge in Baghaichhari Upazila on Sunday.
The victims have been identified as Dipayan Chakma and Ashish Chakma.
The Circle ASP of Sajek Police Station and the Senior Assistant Police Superintendent of Rangamati, Abdul Awal, confirmed the incident, stating, “Immediately after receiving the news that two individuals from the UPDF-Prasit faction were killed by bullets from unidentified terrorists, police from Sajek Police Station reached the scene and initiated legal proceedings.”
Meanwhile, President Mohammad Sahabuddin is scheduled to visit Sajek for a vacation from February 10 to 12. As of now, the police have yet to ascertain the perpetrators behind this type of assassination.
However, the UPDF alleges that members of the JSS Santu Larma group are involved in the killing.
In response to UPDF’s accusations, Tridip Chakma, the organizational secretary of the JSS Santu Larma group, stated, “The JSS has no organizational activities in the Sajek area. UPDF’s allegations are unfounded.”
