UPDF member killed, mother injured in border clash

A member of the UPDF Prasit Group, Redashe Marma, was killed and his mother injured in a shooting on the border between Khagrachari and Chittagong’s Fatikchari. Despite acknowledging the incident, police from Manikchari and Fatikchari stations both claim the area is outside their jurisdiction.

Local and police sources said that around 9:30 PM on Saturday, June 1, in the remote hilly area of Chaillaachhor in Kanchannagar Union, Fatikchari Upazila, an attack was led by Robin Chakma, the unit coordinator of UPDF Democratic. During the attack, Redashe Marma, 25, a member of the armed wing of UPDF Prasit Group, was killed, and his mother was injured. Marma was the son of Nedakka Marma.

Md. Iqbal Uddin, the Officer-in-Charge of Manikchari police station, confirmed the casualties but stated that the area falls under Kanchannagar in Fatikchari Upazila.

Meanwhile, Nurul Kabir, the Officer-in-Charge of Fatikchari police station, also confirmed the incident but insisted that the location is within Manikchari Upazila. The body of the deceased remains at the scene.

Angya Marma, the Khagrachari district organizer of the UPDF Prasit Group, blamed the attack on terrorists from the UPDF Democratic faction. He said that Redashe Marma’s mother was critically injured and is currently receiving treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
