What RAB says about joint forces’ operation in hill tracts

DESK REPORT

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) dismisses as rumours videos purporting to be from various separatist organisations undergoing armed training in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) that have come to their attention via social media.

The RAB believes that these videos were not recorded in the hill tracts.

RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin came up with the information at a press conference at Kawran Bazar Media Centre in Dhaka city on Wednesday (Oct 19, 2022).

“From what we know so far, settling in the remote hill tracts requires assistance. Nobody can go and settle there by themselves.”

“Because of this, some separatist organisations are providing the ‘missing’ people with training and supplies. On the basis of this very information, we are conducting an operation in the hill tracts.”

The RAB recently arrested 12 suspected militants who went ‘missing’ after leaving home in the name of the so-called ‘Hijrat’.

Citing them, he said, the RAB came to know that other suspects were undergoing training and staying in the remote Chittagong Hill Tracts.

To catch and bring to justice the others who have been similarly out of their homes in the name of ‘Hijrat’, according to him, the RAB has since Oct 10 launched an operation in the hill tracts.
