Conflict along Myanmar border: PM Hasina orders to ‘take necessary measures’

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed to do everything necessary in the case of firing and casualties on the Myanmar border

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that he received this directive from the Prime Minister during a meeting with her on Monday (Oct 10, 2022).

He told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “Today we talked to the Prime Minister about something else. Then the issue of Myanmar came up and she ordered us to do everything necessary about the situation along the border with Myanmar.”

For almost two months, armed groups have been clashing with the country’s government forces inside Myanmar across the border points of Ukhia and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar, and Tumbru, Konar Para, Uttar Para, Baishphadi and Chakma Para in Ghumdhum Union of Bandarban.

In this situation, various ammunition, including mortar shells fired from Myanmar, has landed in Bangladesh several times. Myanmar’s jet fighter helicopters have also committed several airspace violations. A few people were also injured by mortar shells from across the border.

Bangladesh’s foreign ministry immediately protested by summoning the Myanmar ambassador in Dhaka several times over these incidents of firing on the border.
