Army chief leaves for China, India

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed left Dhaka this morning (Sept 21) to attend the 19th Asian Games in China and the Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs’ Conclave (IPAC) conference in India.

During the visit, he will observe various games and sports events, including the inauguration of the 19th Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou city of China on September 23 as the president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, said an ISPR press release today.

The army chief will also exchange views with the presidents and secretaries general of the national Olympic associations of different countries.

At the invitation of the Indian army chief, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed will attend the Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs’ Conclave (IPAC) to be held in New Delhi from September 25-27.

The objective of the conference is to create an atmosphere of mutual trust, develop professional relations and strengthen regional security arrangements by improving relations between the ground forces of friendly countries.

At the same time, the army chief-level military officers of different countries will participate in a mutual meeting and discuss working together to strengthen training cooperation among themselves.

After the visit, the Army Chief is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on September 28.
