One injured in landmine explosion at Naikhongchhari border

A Bangladeshi national was injured on Saturday in a landmine explosion at the zero point of the Nikochhari border in Naikhongchhari upazila, Bandarban district.

The injured individual, identified as Nurunnabi, 48, is a member of the Ansar-VDP.

The explosion occurred around 5:00pm in Myanmar territory, south of Pillar 42, near the border area under the jurisdiction of the Nikhongchhari Border Outpost (BOP) of the 11th Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The landmine, reportedly planted by the Arakan Army, detonated in a jungle close to the zero line separating the two countries.

Nurunnabi, son of the late Shafiqur Rahman from Lambabil in Ward No. 6 of Sadar Union, sustained severe injuries to the lower part of his left leg below the knee and his left hand. He was rescued from the scene and taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Local sources confirmed that Nurunnabi is an active member of the Ansar-VDP in the area.
