UPDF ‘collector’ held with Tk 3 lakh in extorted money in Rangamati’s Sajek

Joint forces have arrested an alleged UPDF collector in possession of Tk 300,000 in extorted money among others in Rangamati.
Identified as Rupin, alias Robin Chakma, 26, son of Indraban Chakma of Jarulchhari village, he was arrested from the Machalong Bazar area of Sajek union of the hill district’s Baghaichhari upazila around 2:00 pm on Saturday.
Apart from the extorted money, during the arrest, they found a Platina motorcycle, a receipt book, a cell phone, and a knife on him.
After the interrogation, the joint forces team handed him over to Sajek Police Station at 5:00 pm the same day.
Nurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Sajek Police Station, said Robin Chakma has confessed to being an active member and collector of the UPDF (Prasit).
The proceedings of the case against him are underway, he said.
As for the arrest of Robin Chakma, Argent Chakma, coordinator of Sajek union of UPDF (Prasit), said, “The UPDF has nothing to do with Robin Chakma. He is a hired motorcycle driver.”
