UPDF member arrested for snatching phones from tourists in Rangamati

Security forces in Rangamati have arrested a member of the armed group United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF).

Montu Chakma, 40, was detained near Furmon Hill in Saffchori Union on Sunday, January 14.

He was arrested following reports that a group of terrorists had snatched mobile phones and wallets from tourists at Furmon Hill earlier that morning.

Following these reports, security forces launched a raid in the area, leading to Montu Chakma’s arrest in Tibimon Para.

After the interrogation, he was handed over to Kaukhali Police Station in the evening of the same day.

Furmon Hill in Rangamati district, increasingly favored by tourists, has unfortunately become a target for hill terrorists who rob tourists of all their valuables.

Kaukhali Police Station officer-in-charge Rajib Chandra Kar stated that legal proceedings related to the incident are underway.
