President’s Sajek visit postponed due to Cyclone Ashani
President Abdul Hamid’s visit to Sajek, one of the most popular tourist spots in the country, has been postponed due to the inclement weather caused by Cyclone Ashani. He was scheduled to visit there for three days from May 12.
Md Nabirul Islam, Protocol Officer, Personal Division, President’s Office conveyed this development to the concerned division on Tuesday evening.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shariful Islam also shared this development with local media persons. Sajek falls under Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila.
The president’s visit to Sajek, also situated at an altitude of 1600 feet above sea level, was postponed at the last minute.
Ahead of his visit, Sajek was already decorated and wrapped in a security blanket, meaning that all preparations for his visit were completed.
The last-minute postponement of the president’s visit to Sajek has frustrated the local lushai community, including headman and karbari.
Lalthanga Lusai, Headman of Sajek Ruilui Para, said, “We are extremely saddened and disappointed by the postponement of the visit of His Excellency the President.”
“…. However we hope that when the weather returns to normalcy, the president will visit us.”
