Rally in Bandarban’s Ruma Upazila calls for KNF-free Mulpi Para

Speakers at a rally have called for urgent action to eliminate the KNF from Mulpi Para under Paindu Union in Bandarban’s Ruma upazila.

They made the call citing concerns over the safety and well-being of local Jhum farmers, day laborers, and other community members who rely on the land for their livelihoods.

The Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) is a separatist group in Chittagong Hill Tracts known for violent activities, including extortion, kidnapping, and murder, causing fear and instability in the region.

The rally that followed a protest march was organised under the banner of Ruma Sacheton Nagarik Samaj (Ruma Conscious Citizen Society) at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday (April 19).

The Chief Guest and Upazila Parishad Chairman, Uhlaching Marma, expressed concern over the KNF’s violent acts, including extortion, murder and terrorism.

Marma emphasized that the group’s fabrication of a map and flag for an independent country was only creating fear and instability for local residents, including shifting farmers, day laborers.

He urged the KNF members to cease their terrorizing, kidnapping, beating, and extortion activities, as these actions will not bring happiness to anyone in the region.

Agravansh Orphanage Director U Naindia Ther, Ruma Sadar UP Chairman Shaimong Marma, Paindu UP Chairman Uhlamong Marma, Barathli UP Chairman Atomong Marma, among others, spoke at the event.
